Joining us the week will be Jillian B. Murphy, professional speaker, coach to leaders and teams, and co-author of the two best-selling books, Leading at The Edge and Into the Storm.
Jillian is a dynamic and sought-after keynote speaker, delivering riveting presentations that feature dramatic adventure stories. Her programs provide compelling examples of the extraordinary difference that strong leadership and teamwork can make under conditions of adversity, uncertainty, and change.
The first presentation, Timeless Leadership Lessons from Ernest Shackleton's Epic Antarctic Expedition, highlights the power of effective leadership, and emphasizes Shackleton’s role in the success of the Endurance expedition. The second presentation, Critical Teamwork Lessons from the World's Toughest Ocean Races, focuses on distributed leadership to explore how team members can work together to survive and triumph against tough obstacles and fierce competition. Both dramatic presentations outline Ten Strategies for Success that can be applied in any challenging environment.
Jillian coaches high potential leaders facing significant challenges. These challenges include assuming new roles, setting new organizational direction, and navigating organizational obstacles. Coaching often involves confidential assessment interviews to collect feedback from key individuals; and candid discussion of sensitive issues related to strategy, leadership, and teamwork.
Jillian puts leadership development in the context of the full life structure. She believes that other aspects of life ― including physical health, psychological resilience, and non-work relationships — make important contributions to effective leadership.
Teamwork is a core element of organizational performance. As organizations maneuver toward lofty goals and negotiate uncertain environments, success depends on a team’s ability to make decisions, generate ideas, manage conflict, solve problems, and innovate.
Jillian works with senior teams to unlock their full potential by helping them develop a clear understanding of their strengths and limitations ― including both interpersonal and team dynamics. She works with teams to confront the most critical barriers to performance, working through those obstacles, and committing to new behaviors and actions.
Co-author of the books Leading at the Edge: Leadership Lessons from the Extraordinary Saga of Shackleton’s Antarctic Expedition; and Into the Storm: Lessons in Teamwork from the Treacherous Sydney to Hobart Ocean Race.
Jillian graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut and received her MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She has studied, worked, and volunteered extensively in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a Vistage International Expert Speaker, the world's largest CEO membership organization. Jillian has run the Philadelphia and NYC marathons, and is training to be a classical Pilates instructor.
