A Message from the Club President

A Message from the Club President

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the 2007-2008 President of the Rotary Club of Milford.  We are a group of over 100 men and women committed to helping our community, our country and the world.  We have members who have been in the club over 50 years and members who joined last month.  It is a large bunch of people I consider friends. We share with each other our happy times, our sad times; we welcome new members and we mourn those who pass on.  But as a group we accomplish great things.

There are over 32,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries.  There are over 1.2 million Rotarians in the world.  Together, we have just about eradicated polio in the world in just the last 25 years.

Our club has built a medical clinic in the Philippines, supported a health organization in Haiti and purchased computers for school children in South America.  We are putting a young Mexican woman through college (the first member in her family ever to receive higher education).  Each year we grant over $25,000 in college scholarships to graduating Milford High School students.  And we grant money to graduates of Platt Technical School to help them purchase the tools of their trade.

To raise the funds to accomplish all that, we run several fund raising projects each year.  The annual Rotary Lobster Bake is a city seasonal highlight.  We also participate in the Milford Oyster Festival, run our own golf tournament, present “Outdoor Movie Night” in early fall, and raffle off an amazing automobile.

And we have a great deal of fun while doing all that.

No single person can solve all of the problems in the world.  But working together as the Rotary Club of Milford, we can certainly do our part to make the world a better place.
